We have had some problems with EVO USB units, that don't work on our FreeBSD servers.
I first thought that this was a software problem, but it seems that the USB drive of the EVO units is faulty. A long attachment cable help, but do not solve the problem.

For HRS-products (High Reliability Servers) the EVO cannot be recommended, at least not currently.

Yours Truly
Bill

Your cable-length issue indicate some kind of ringing problem. We have only used FTDI USB chips; do you know which kind of USB chip your units use?

The EVO USB use a simplified amplifier with 2 drive stages, instead of the usual with four stages. It is popular for consumer electronics.

A friend, who works as technician/consultant, told me that he found problems on Linux.
It is not the contacts!
